the humanitas mission

humanitas, published by Saint Anselm College, is an interdisciplinary humanities journal of expressive student work and scholarship published as a limited edition each spring in conjunction with the annual celebration of Shakespeare’s birthday.

humanitas aims to feature the best student writing and artwork across disciplines in the humanities, including but not limited to academic analysis, narrative features, translations, exegetical reflective work, poetry, fiction, and illustration. The journal seeks to cultivate and showcase the distinction of Saint Anselm College through excellent student work.

The printing of humanitas 2024 is made possible by a generous gift from Thomas and Mica Boh and the Baird Foundation

From Gary M. Bouchard, Ph.D., Executive Director, Gregory J. Grappone ’04 Humanities Institute and Professor of English:

humanitas, under the sponsorship of the Gregory J. Grappone ’04 Humanities Institute , represents one of the many fruitful developments since the Institute’s founding in 2018. All of us owe a debt to Bob and Beverly Grappone for their vision and unyielding generosity on behalf of their late son Greg.

In the spirit of Gregory Grappone, ’04, the Grappone Humanities Institute at Saint Anselm College reaches across our campus and surrounding communities to engage people of all backgrounds with questions and ideas that arise from our common and uncommon experiences. We do so in the determined hope that, like Greg, we can know the enduring consolations and wisdom that spring from the rich variety of arts and humanities in our world, and better understand the meaning and purpose of our lives.
