Too afraid

Krista Carroll

To request a pose.

To frighten you with flash.

To press into this night

to test its grit.

To admit my camera’s faults.

To say, “it’s no good, but aren’t you?”

To spend another moment with air between our mouths,

and to reminiscence, right now, as it all escapes me.

To see you blurred as a dream.

To think I’ll see a picture on a screen,

And try to call you back to me.
